Board Candidates for the 2026-2028 Term

(Board members serve a two year term with half the board being elected every year)

Club By-Laws limit the board to 19 members. Currently, there are nine board members, three officers (president, treasurer, & secretary) and six directors. Officers are elected by the Board. The following candidates have indicated they would like to serve on the board for the next two year term. Club elections are held in March. Club members who would like to serve on the Board may contact Vance Narez or any of the board members to be nominated.

Vince Narez

Originally from the Bay Area, I moved to Santa Barbara in April 2006 with my wife Lynne and a pack of dogs. Since retiring from business lending in late 2014, I spend time with Lynne and my dogs traveling, exercising, cooking and fly fishing.

I've been fishing since I was 4 years old when my father took me fishing in the San Joaquin River. I haven't stopped since, and early on focused on bass fishing in the Delta and Northern California lakes. Since 2002 I've used, almost exclusively, the fly rod.

I enjoy fly fishing for trout, steelhead, redfish, surf perch and golden dorado. Some of my travels have taken me to the Rockies, Louisiana, Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, and Russia. This adventure travel is very exciting and educational.

I've been a member of Santa Barbara Flyfishers since 2010 and enjoy the camaraderie and fishing with other club members. I've been on the Board of Directors, club Treasurer and serving as your President since 2022.

Mike Pugh

Mike is a native of Santa Barbara. After graduating from local schools-go Royals-Mike got degrees at Cal Poly and USC that enabled a 35 year career in technology.

He retired in 2021 and now works part time as an executive coach and handyman at his rental properties. He's been married to his wife Cristy for 35 years and has three adult kids and grandchildren.

Mike grew up in a family of campers, so fishing was a family tradition and part of every vacation. Mike was introduced to fly fishing 15 years ago when he got a last minute invite to fill in for someone on a co-worker's trip to Henry's Fork in Idaho. He became a regular with that group, making annual trips all over the western US.

Mike joined SBF when he retired and got another lucky break, this time filling in on a trip to Patagonia for his first trip with new SBF friends.

In addition to family and fishing, Mike enjoys traveling, gardening, playing golf and tennis, and following the Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, and Trojans. He's served as the club Treasurer the past four years.

Dr. Mark Rockwell, DC

Mark and his wife, Dianne, moved to Santa Barbara in 2019 from Northern California to be near their daughter and grandchildren. He was formerly in chiropractic practice in Redwood City, CA for 28 years before retiring. They have three children.

He's been involved with fly fishing clubs since the 1990's including being President of the Gold Country Fly Fishers in Nevada City and on their Board for 18 years. He also served as President of the Northern California Council of Fly Fishers International. He joined SB Flyfishers soon after moving to Santa Barbara and volunteered to fill a vacancy on our board in May 2022.

He's a self-described steelhead junky, and has fished for them in every state on the West Coast as well as in British Columbia and Alaska. He also guided on the Fall River in No. California for three years after retiring. Mark is well known for his conservation efforts in Northern Calif. and worked for 20 years to have the Klamath River dams removed which is currently taking place. Not surprisingly he is the chairman of our Conservation Committee and helped form Save Santa Barbara Steelhead.

Lori Lee Collins

I have been a "nature girl" for as long as I can remember, but over the last 30 years, that connection has deepened into a true sense of awe and wonderment whenever I am in the Great Outdoors. While my desire to learn the art of fly fishing began about a decade ago-initially sparked by a stack of birthday books and a lot of curiosity-it wasn't until five years ago that my world truly changed.

After attending the "Celine's Fly Gal Weekend", I was introduced to both the SoCal Women on the Fly and the Santa Barbara Fly Fishers Club (SBF). From my very first "Basics for Beginners" class with Larry Basham in 2023, I felt an immediate sense of warmth and encouragement from the SBF club. I knew then that I had found my place and my community.

I bring a diverse professional background to the Board, combining logistics and management with a deep-rooted passion for education:

Education (24 Years): I am currently a 4th/5th-grade teacher in the Carpinteria Unified School District. My commitment to education even led me to start my own public school-a testament to my "can-do" spirit and organizational skills.

Corporate Management (16 Years): Prior to teaching, I served in management with United Parcel Service (UPS), where I honed the administrative and operational skills necessary to keep complex projects moving forward.

Vision for the Club

As a board member, my goal is to bridge the gap between our local waters and the next generation of anglers. I am particularly passionate about:

Youth Outreach: I am currently a participant in the Trout in the Classroom program at the Carpinteria Family School campus. I believe cultivating young advocates and conservationists is vital for the future of our sport.

Women in Fly Fishing: I am actively assisting in coordinating the upcoming Santa Barbara Women on the Fly event this May. I am dedicated to making our club an even more inclusive space for women to learn and thrive.

I would be honored to serve on the Board of Directors, giving back to the club that has given me so much joy and friendship.

Lindsay McTavish

Lindsay is relatively new to fly fishing but she is working on catching up as fast as she can.

Lindsay grew up in Santa Barbara (Go Dons!) before being sent overseas and to many different states for her work in travel and education.

She recently retired with the goal of spending lots of time with her grandson, fishing trips in her camper/van and taking hiking adventures.

She has been a Director for two years heading the Women's Group. She would like to concentrate on encouraging more women to get into the sport and join SB Flyfishers.

Additionally, she is co-planning a women's class with Lori Lee Collins to assist in understanding equipment, terminology, techniques and strategies.
